Seiya Suzuki Heating Up as Cubs Spring Training Winds Down

Seiya Suzuki's approach at the plate has been one of the Chicago Cubs' biggest bright spots during Cactus League action. After an unfortunate play that helped seal the 2023 Cubs' fate, Suzuki is a man on a mission this spring.

In 28 plate appearances, Suzuki owns an impressive 1.480 OPS. If the Cubs can get this version of the righty in the regular season, the postseason shouldn't be out of the question.

While it's only spring training, it's still encouraging to see that one of the Cubs' major lineup catalysts looks ready for liftoff this year.

Since signing with the club in 2022, Suzuki has posted solid offensive numbers for a team on the upswing. It's been a welcome addition in right field after multiple seasons of Jason Heyward's offensive woes.

Cubs' hitting coach Dustin Kelly had glowing remarks words about Suzuki's spring showing.

"He realizes that he can be that bat in our lineup," Kelly said. "And he wants to be...That's one of the things that he talks about, is like, he showed everybody how good he really is."

After an impressive 2023 season that ultimately went south for the Cubs, Suzuki's production will be even more crucial in 2024 given that the lineup is practically the same with Cody Bellinger's returning

The Cubs have their sights set on a return to postseason play in 2024. Suzuki will likely be the club's best right-handed power option in the everyday lineup, and it's another big step in his MLB career that the team is banking on.
